HR2DMR Dan Mejía

Enjoys Contesting and DX
A relative newcomer to contesting and DX Daniel was first licensed in 2004 as HQ2DMR and has managed to grow in ham radio both at the local and international level. His wall boasts some of the most desired awards in ham radio such as: DXCC, WAS, WAC, CQWW and many more. Dan is a member of Radio Club de Honduras and definitely a great addition to the HQ8R DX team. He is part of the HQ8R management team and is our operations manager.

HR2DX Antonio Handal

Enjoys Contesting and DX
Another newcomer to contesting and DX Tony manages to carry on his father's legacy HR2D into the new millennia, a member of Radio Club de Honduras he was first licensed in 2002 as HQ2AHC and also has excelled in ham radio both at the local and international level. He holds WAC and CQWW awards and has been the president of Radio Club de Honduras for the last two years. He is part of the HQ8R management team and is our logistics manager.

HR2J Javier Pinel

Enjoys Contesting and DX
Javier is one of our veteran members at Radio Club de Honduras, he was first licensed as HR5JPT and has operated many contests, he is the recipient of a one letter Honduran callsign (only 7 in the country) as HR2J and the one came up with the original idea of activating Swan Islands, he holds DXCC and CQWW awards. Javier is another plus to the HQ8R DX team.

HR2PAC Pedro Castillo

Enjoys Contesting and DX
Pedro was first licensed in 1997 and has managed to keep his HR2PAC callsign he is a member of Radio Club de Honduras and although he was inactive for a couple of years while living in the USA he is trying to make up for lost time. Currently he is working on his DXCC and WAS awards and holds CQWW. He is the Webmaster for HQ8R and our DXpedition leader.

WQ7R Ray Cameron

Enjoys Contesting and DX
HQ9R picture Ray is an active contester and active member of Radio Club de Honduras he's located on the island of Roatán (he is also known as HQ9R specially during contest season), with his friend Boyd HR9BFS they have built one of the best contest stations in Honduras called "Command Central". Most recently Boyd managed to complete the first EME QSO for Honduras from there, congratulations! Ray is a power DX'er and another plus to HQ8R.

HR7REA Ramon Alvarado

Enjoys Emergency net control
HR7REA picture Ramon is member of Radio Club de Honduras and also a new kid on the block but has managed to make a name for himself in the local Central America ham radio scene, he operates mostly 40 & 80 meters specially the emergency prevention nets and has gotten his entire family involved in the hobby (XYL and three kids are licensed hams). Holds local contesting awards. Welcome aboard Ramon!

HR9OGS Oscar Salazar

Enjoys Contesting
HR9OGS Oscar is a member of Radio Club de Honduras and lives on the island of Roatán in the Bay Islands. He is part of the HQ9R DX team along with HR9BFS Boyd and WQ7R Ray, Oscar has been active on and off for the last 15 years from the islands, he has been part of several DXpeditions with  Radio Club de Honduras and has demonstrated to be a loyal companion and great logistics guy. Welcome aboard Oscar!

HR9BFS Boyd Svoboda

Enjoys DX, Contesting and EME
HR9BFS Boyd is a member of Radio Club de Honduras living on the island of Roatán in the Bay Islands, along with his friend WQ7R Ray they have built one of the best contest stations in Central America HQ9R. Recently Boyd added EME capabilities to the station and was able to complete the first EME QSO for Honduras with the Netherlands. He has informed the HQ8R organizers that he will operate high power EME from Swan Islands, he is also providing a brand new 6,500 watt diesel generator to the op. Thank you Boyd for promoting DX and Honduran ham radio, we know how much of a sacrifice this is for you.

NZ5N Bill Zurilla

Enjoys DX and EME
NZ5N Bill lives in Plantation, Florida and enjoys golf, travel, Star Trek. Age 54, married with 7 year old son. He's been an attorney since 1981, now a partner in a law firm. Lived in Bratislava, Slovakia, Europe from 1998 to 2004. Before that lived in New Orleans. First licensed in seventh grade in New Jersey in 1966 as WN2YRD, later WB2YRD. Moved to Florida (WB4RSF) and later Louisiana (EL49), with a weekend shack on the Mississippi gulf coast (EM50). Was active in the 80's on 6, 2 and 432, also Oscar satellite and some HF. After having great fun on VHF from OM9ACA in summer 2007, he picked up an ICOM IC-7000 and has worked meteor scatter and moon bounce in Florida with stealth antennas. Along with HR9BFS Boyd they are the resident "Gurus" of the EME operations from Swan Islands. Bill is a great addition to the HQ8R DX team and we are sure that with his experience the op will be more fun, welcome aboard Bill!

W9GL Jim Gordon

Enjoys CW
W9GL Jim has been inactive for a while because of his work and having moved eight times since 1992, not much operating got done. However he is now resurrecting the old station and has been mostly CW lately, but can be found on SSB phone. He really likes CW and that's the spirit we need at HQ8R, welcome aboard Jim!

K9IMM Ted Gisske

Enjoys DX, Contesting and EME
Extra Class, first licensed in 1961 he is a private practice consulting engineer (both electrical and mechanical) doing mostly new product design and has done several Caribbean contest and non-contest DXpeditions. Won NA and placed second in the world on 80 CW in ARRL CW DX one year from KP4, also won NA and placed second in the world on 40 CW from VP5 in the ARRL CW DX contest another year. Also has done 2-person mini-DXpeditions to Cooper Island, off Tortola (VP2V) and St. Lucia (J6). The Cooper Island operation was solar powered. Participates in 5 to 6 contests a year, mostly DX and both Phone and CW. Recent score in the 2007 CQWW CW contest was 1.37M in the SOHP(A) category. Was deeply involved in EME on 2 meters for about 10 years in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He has worked 47 states on 2 meters, quite a few off the moon and designed, built and maintained 3 different EME arrays as well as built the high powered  amps and low noise preamps to make it work. He is part of the software development team for N1MM logger for the last 7-8 years. Ted is a power operator and a great overall addition to the team, welcome aboard Ted!

HR2MD Vinicio de León

Enjoys Contesting and DX
Superior Class, first licensed in 1993 as HR2MVD and has changed recently to his current callsign HR2MD "Medical Doctor". Vinicio is a real life 100% medical doctor working at a local hospital in the city of San Pedro Sula, he has been a part of several DXpeditions as a member of Radio Club de Honduras and has participated in local Central American contests. Being one of the official physicians for HQ8R we are glad to have him on board, thank you Vini for joining the HQ8R DX team!

HR2AW Jorge Alvarez

Enjoys Contesting and DX
A Superior Class Jorge is one our veteran DXpedition operators, he was part of the original HQ6DX team that went to Cayos Cohinos IOTA NA-160 for the first time in 1995. He is a real life 100% medical doctor, this DXpedition is truly blessed with having two doctors on board, Jorge has demonstrated in the past to be an excellent companion and logistics "go to" guy. Being part of the medical team of HQ8R we are glad to have him on board, thank you Jorge for joining the HQ8R DX team!
